21.4. Removal and installation of reverse main gear

Prevention

At installation of reverse main gear it is necessary to use new nuts of fastening of a back part of the driveshaft, bolts of fastening of a power shaft and a nut of fastening of a case of reverse main gear.

Removal

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Lift a back part of the car and record on supports. Remove back wheels. If necessary merge oil from a case of reverse main gear.

2. Using paint, apply combination tags on the elastic coupling of the driveshaft and a flange of reverse main gear. Unscrew the nuts and bolts fixing the elastic coupling of the driveshaft to a flange of reverse main gear. At installation it is necessary to use new nuts.

3. Unscrew the bolts fixing the internal hinge of the right power shaft to a flange of reverse main gear, remove a plate of fastening and, using a soft wire, suspend a power shaft to the car bottom.

Prevention

Exclude a possibility of free sagging of a power shaft as it can bring the external hinge of equal angular speeds of a power shaft. At installation of a power shaft it is necessary to use new bolts of fastening of the internal hinge of a power shaft.

4. Similarly disconnect the left power shaft from reverse main gear.

5. On models with ABS disconnect the electric socket of the back sensor installed on a car wheel. Take electric wires from fastening brackets so that the sensor could be removed together with reverse main gear.

6. Support by a jack through wooden whetstone reverse main gear.

7. Unscrew nuts and take two bolts of fastening of a back part of the main transfer. Unscrew a nut and take a bolt of fastening of a forward part of the main transfer. At installation of reverse main gear it is necessary to use new nuts.

8. Being careful, omit reverse main gear and take it from under the car. Note an arrangement and remove washers and rubber support from forward fastening of reverse main gear. Check a condition of rubber support and, if necessary, replace them.

Installation

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Combine a flange of reverse main gear with the elastic coupling of the driveshaft according to the tags put before removal.

2. Check correctness of installation of rubber support and washers and establish reverse main gear into place.

3. Establish bolts of fastening of reverse main gear, then screw on them new nuts and tighten them the required moment.

4. Check combination of tags, then insert bolts of fastening of the elastic coupling of the driveshaft to a flange of reverse main gear, screw on them new nuts and tighten them the required moment.

5. On models with ABS connect the electric socket to the sensor of a back wheel.

6. Combine power shafts with flanges of reverse main gear. Oil a carving and heads of new bolts, then establish bolts and fixing plates on power shafts, screw in bolts and tighten them the required moment.

7. Establish wheels and screw in bolts of fastening of wheels, then lower the car on the earth and tighten bolts of fastening of wheels the required moment.
