27.4. Start and stop of the engine
Before start
Before start of the engine fix the car not movably for what tighten the parking brake.
On models with the mechanical transmission install the gear shifting lever in neutral situation, and on models with the automatic transmission install the selector lever in situation P or N.
Start of the cold engine
Turn a key in the ignition lock in situation 2. At the same time the control lamp of accumulator charging will light up, and on models with diesel engines the control bulb of work of system of prestarting warming up of the diesel engine will also light up. Switching off of a control bulb of system of prestarting warming up of the diesel engine indicates that the engine can be started.
Temperature of external air is above 0 °C
Without pressing an accelerator pedal, turn a key in the ignition lock to the right against the stop and after start of the engine release a key.
Temperature of external air is below 0 °C
Smoothly press pedals of coupling and an accelerator. Turn a key in the ignition lock to the right against the stop and after start of the engine release a key, and then smoothly release an accelerator pedal.
Process of start of the engine is not recommended to be interrupted as at the cold engine, it is possible that the engine in repeated attempt will not be started.
Start of the hot engine
Turn a key in the ignition lock to the right against the stop and after start of the engine release a key.
Engine stop
Stop the car, fix it in this situation and turn a key in the ignition lock in situation 0.
After high operational power setting, for example, after driving in mountain conditions, do not switch off it at once after a stop, and let's it work within at least 1 minute on single turns that there was no stagnation of heat.
Instructions
If the engine is not started in the first attempt, switch off ignition and in 20 - 30 seconds repeat inclusion of a starter. It is not recommended to include a starter more than for 10 - 15 seconds.
As on the lock of ignition there is a blocking for an exception of restart of the working engine, before restart of the engine install a key in the ignition lock in situation 0.
After start of the engine first of all pay attention to oil pressure. Do not increase turns of the cold engine until pressure of oil corresponds to demanded.
If at start of the engine the control bulb of preliminary heating of the diesel engine does not light up, address on service station.
If the car is constantly operated in regions where air temperature is below –18 °C, it is recommended to address on Mercedes-Benz service station and to install the block of heating of cooling liquid.
