23.3. Bearing of a forward nave

Check

Use of the indicator of hour type for measurement of an axial side play of the hug bearing of a forward wheel

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Tighten the parking brake, then lift a forward part of the car and record on supports. Remove the corresponding forward wheel.
2. Screw in two bolts of fastening of a wheel with thick washers in openings from two opposite parties of a brake disk.
3. Using a drift or the screw-driver, remove a protective cap from the central part of a nave. If at removal of a cap there was its damage, it needs to be replaced. In the presence remove the spring located on a nave axis.
4. Using an edge big the flat screw-driver, being careful, take away brake shoes from a brake disk so that they did not interfere with rotation of a nave.
5. Fix an arm of the indicator of hour type on the forward party of a brake disk and establish a measuring tip of the indicator in a nave pin end face (see the drawing). Establish a scale of the indicator of hour type on 0. Having undertaken from two parties a brake disk, move it along an axis. Determine an axial side play of the bearing of a forward nave by indications of the indicator of hour type. If the axial side play of the bearing exceeds admissible value, it is necessary to make adjustment.
6. If the axial side play of the hug bearing of a forward wheel is in admissible limits, remove the indicator of hour type from a brake disk, then establish a spring and a protective cap into place. Establish a wheel, then lower the car on the earth and tighten bolts of fastening of a wheel the required moment. Several times press a brake pedal in order that brake shoes contacted with a brake disk.

Adjustment

5. Weaken tightening the bolt holding a nut of fastening of a nave from unscrewing.
6. Rotating a brake disk, gradually tighten a nut of fastening of a nave until when the brake disk is turned with insignificant effort. From this point unscrew a nut of fastening of a nave approximately on a third of a turn, then strike a nave axis with a kiyanka to reduce a bearing tightness.
7. Using the indicator of hour type, measure an axial side play of the hug bearing. If necessary make adjustment of an axial side play of the hug bearing, rotating a nut of fastening of a nave. After adjustment tighten tightening the bolt fixing a nut of fastening of a nave from unscrewing the required tightening moment.
9. Repeatedly measure an axial side play of the hug bearing of a forward wheel.
